Terms and Conditions of Grooming

Terms and Conditions

Please read below.

All these points must be agreed to before a groom can/will commence.

  • It is highly recommended that all dogs/puppies are vaccinated, wormed and flea treated up to date.

  • Matted dogs will be clipped off completely and this can come with its own issues. Please see the matting policy below. There may be an extra charge for severely matted dogs.

  • Dog grooming comes with its own level of risk. It is understood by all parties that accidents do occur with the nature of this business. The groomer will not be held responsible should an accident happen, but they will apply first aid if needed, or seek prompt veterinary advice.

  • Aggressive dogs will not be tolerated. Any dog attempting to bite with purpose and cause harm will be sent home, regardless of the stage the groom is at.

  • No shows, late cancellations (less than 24hours) and late arrivers will occur a fee,

  • Fleas ARE NOT WELCOME. If fleas are found on any dog, a fee will be added to the groom price to cover closure of the shop to disinfect.

  • Your dog will mainly be on the table and/or in the bath when in the salon, however a holding crate is available should the need arise.

  • Walk-in washes are just that, a wash and dry ONLY. Please do not expect a full groom. Aggression will not be tolerated and the wash will be stopped should a dog show any sign of stress.

  • At no time will the dog groomer be held responsible for any accidental injury, illness, or disease. Please make sure your dog is well, fit and happy before attending their appointment.

  • The groomer will take photographs of your dog before and after the groom and sometimes in between. Sometimes these photos are used on social media for marketing purposes.

Matting Policy

The Animal Welfare Act (2006) states that all of the 5 freedoms should be met at all times. This includes:

  • a suitable environment

  • a suitable diet

  • be able to exhibit normal behaviour patterns

  • be housed with, or apart, from other animals

  • be protected from pain, suffering, injury and disease.

These freedoms must be adhered to when the dog is in the grooming salon. As well as keeping them safe, watered, as stress-free as possible and able to behave normally, we also must make sure they are free from pain.

Matts are EXTREMELY painful. They cause the skin to become tight and can even restrict blood flow. Matts do not adhere to the five freedoms and as a professional, we must make sure the dog is pain free. This is why a heavily matted/felted dog will be clipped off. This ensures the dog isn't put through the painful experience of de-matting their coat. Odd matts can be dealt with by using a matt breaker, thinners or clippers, but this will not be done for dogs with matts in several places all over their body. A fee will be added onto your quoted price, to accommodate the extra time and care given.

After a dog is clipped off, the skin can breathe and the blood can flow better, this can feel odd to the dog and this can result in them itching and having red skin. This shouldn't be any cause for concern but if it persists or you are worried, you should consult your vet. In this instance, should a dog get a cut, irritation or burn from clipping the coats short to release heavy matting/felting, then the groomer will not be held responsible. It is not the groomers fault your dog is matted.

Please ensure that you regularly line brush your dog. This will keep the dog matt free, or at least mostly matt free and this will stop your dog from being clipped off when they go to the groomer. Wool coated dogs like Bedlingtons, poodles and doodles (poodle cross breeds) require extra maintenance and this should be considered when purchasing the puppy. The puppy will need socialising and exposing to the grooming salon from an early age. Hannah's Hounds offer a puppy intro for all breeds of puppies to get used to the surroundings, noises and large equipment, giving them the best possible start to their life time of grooming.
